Experts discuss workplace violence prevention and policy
Health care providers should have mandatory training requirements to better prepare them to assess, manage, report and design interventions for workplace violence prevention, according to an expert panel. Convened by the American Academy of Nursing, the panel also called for federal policy to protect health care workers; innovation and collaboration across the health care continuum; implementation of effective strategies to create violence-free environments; and access to data to support health care providers. The AAN last week released findings from the meeting, held in July 2023. Participants discussed proposed legislation, shared best practices and outlined future steps to improve nurse and health care professional safety and well-being. The AAN’s policy dialogues bring together experts to discuss urgent issues and offer policy recommendations. (AAN news release, 3/29/24)
