EdgeRunners highlight nurse-led models to improve care
The American Academy of Nursing has selected six innovative care models as Academy Edge Runners. The long-running program features evidence-based, nurse-designed models demonstrating significant clinical, financial, community and policy outcomes with proven sustainability and replicability. Among the models is Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health’s Virtually Integrated Care Professional Practice Model. The model brings virtual nursing and language services to the bedside care team using computer technology that can be accessed by the touch of a screen from the patient’s room. The virtual nurse is fully integrated into the health care team, working directly with the bedside nurse, providers, pharmacy, ancillary services and care managers to deliver patient and family-centered care. AAN will recognize the six Edge Runners at its 2024 Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. (AAN news release, 9/23/24).
