Early flu vaccine data promising, CDC says
The 2023 flu vaccines for the Southern Hemisphere have reduced the risk of being hospitalized for flu by 52%, based on mid-season data from five countries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The data suggest the U.S. vaccines could provide similar protection if similar viruses continue to predominate, since both hemispheres used similar flu vaccine formations. The CDC recommends all Americans aged 6 months and older receive the seasonal flu vaccine in September or October. (CDC report, 9/8/23)
