Driscoll Calls for In-Home Care Academic-Practice Partnerships
AONL member and Humana CNO and Senior Vice President Kathy Driscoll, MSN, RN, urges CNOs to follow Humana’s example of offering partnerships and training opportunities for in-home care to nursing students. CenterWell Home Health, a part of the Louisville, Ky.-based system, has partnered with nursing schools to ensure students gain competencies to thrive in in-home care settings. In-home care nurses must consider both their patients’ medical and social aspects of health, including how finances, family dynamics, housing and nutrition affect health outcomes. They should be empathetic and be able to incorporate telehealth and remote monitoring technologies. The system has facilitated 285 student placements across more than 60 schools for nurses who are attracted to a sustainable career allowing for a work-life balance (HealthLeaders Media article, 6/28/24)
