Cleveland Clinic discusses process to evaluate technology
In a July Voice of Nursing Leadership article, the Cleveland Clinic’s Scott Dwyer, MBA, describes how the Ohio-based health system takes a collaborative approach to evaluate technology. The Nursing Product Evaluation Committee ─ consisting of representatives from supply chain, nursing, finance, education, quality and safety, infection prevention, clinical engineering and hospital leadership ─ meets monthly to evaluate new products. The committee seeks to understand market trends to be proactive in their resource planning. Clinical leaders evaluate potential technology for ease of use and clinical efficacy; non-clinical leaders evaluate it for feasibility. The committee also oversees technology implementation, often taking a phased approach and building best practices. Dwyer is the senior director of commodity sourcing and co-chair of the Nursing Product Evaluation Committee.
