Children’s Mercy develops high-tech command center

Children’s Mercy Kansas City opened a high-tech command center to monitor patients and address care concerns. The command center includes remote monitoring, audio-visual telemedicine, predictive analytics and artificial intelligence. It also provides technologies built into the electronic health record platform enabling administrators to monitor a patient’s progress through the hospital from admission to discharge. The system can identify surges and problems before they affect staff or patient care. It also tracks the supply chain, weather and traffic. Stephanie Meyer, MS-FNP, RN, an AONL member and the health system’s senior vice president and CNO, says the command center took several years to design and build, and involved input from many different departments, including nursing.
