CNOs share anti-bullying strategies
During COVID-19 surges, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health saw an uptick in inappropriate behaviors such as bullying and name-calling by patients, visitors and family members, according to AONL member Denise Mihal, BSN, RN, Novant's executive vice president, and chief nursing and clinical operations officer. At Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger, 72% of nurses reported experiencing unprofessional behavior in the last year. The CNOs of both institutions described the steps they took to combat bullying. These included updating what constituted bullying and harassment, making reporting easier, educating employees and the public, and designating teams to oversee improvement efforts.
