CNO explains how to cultivate nurse resiliency
AONL member Mary Jo Loughlin, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of patient care services for Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, N.J., explained how she cultivates resilience in her staff in a recent interview with HealthLeaders Media. She said the pandemic has made it harder for nurses to “bounce back” because they can’t escape it when they leave the workplace and there is no end in sight. Staffing challenges have further exacerbated the challenge of cultivating a resilient workforce. The best strategy is for leaders to “listen, to be present, and not assume that we know what the staff wants or needs,” she said. (HealthLeaders Media article, 10/11/21)
