CNO advocates caring for body, mind and soul
AONL member Jesus Cepero, PhD, RN, suggests three steps for chief nursing officers (CNOs) who want to introduce holistic care in their facilities: assess the organization’s culture for awareness of consumer demand for holistic care; consider available resources; and consult consumers on how they want care delivered. The senior vice president and CNO at Stanford Children's Health, Palo Alto, Calif. is an advocate for care that treats the body, mind and soul. "It's important that we have a good social service or care management approach to making sure that we're meeting all the patient's needs,” Cepero said, noting language barriers are frequently an obstacle to providing holistic care.
