CNEs offer staffing strategies for pandemic and beyond
The disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity to learn about staffing for future disruptions and for optimal day-to-day care. A 2020 survey of 13 system chief nurse executives revealed several lessons. These insights were captured in an article in the July issue of the Voice of Nursing Leadership. Key staffing strategies included standardizing staffing practices, creating staffing flexibility through cross training, centralizing staffing at the enterprise level and defining surge parameters clearly. The article also identified eight key lessons, which respondents considered imperative for future success in all care settings.
