CDC releases COVID-19 resources for the disabled and their caregivers
To address the unique challenges the COVID-19 pandemic produced for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) created a communication resources toolkit, which explains in plain language how these people and their caregivers can protect themselves from the virus. Social stories, videos, posters and interactive activities focus on topics such as getting a COVID-19 vaccine, wearing a mask, social distancing, hand washing and COVID-19 testing. The toolkit also contains a tip sheet for caregivers offering suggestions for ways to ease their loved one’s worries about the virus. Forty videos and web resources are available in American Sign Language (ASL). (CDC news release, 9/1/21)
