CDC issues health advisory about IV bag shortage

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health advisory on the supply disruption of peritoneal dialysis and intravenous solutions due to the Baxter plant closure in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. Baxter launched a webpage with resources hospitals can use for product management and conservation strategies. Baxter said shipments to the U.S. from two of its facilities abroad are underway. The American Hospital Association is working on multiple fronts to provide updates and assist members with supply chain issues. Nancy Foster, AHA vice president for quality and patient safety policy, said future policies should focus on ensuring more plants manufacturer IV bags. (CDC Health Advisory notice, 10/12/24)
