Banner Health invests in AI for clinician support

Banner Health (Arizona) is scaling an artificial intelligence tool in all 33 of its hospitals to enable clinicians to spend more time with patients. The tool, used within the electronic health record, summarizes clinical notes to reduce a clinician’s time spent on the computer and makes it easier to access decision support for care management. Clinicians will receive one-on-one training to personalize their use of AI and gain their buy-in. Banner Health will track how many clinicians use the system and how often, as well as determine whether it captures all information accurately. Separately, a Journal of the American Medical Association study showed AI could help to triage emergency department patients. (HealthLeaders Media article, 5/15/24)
