Article explores next steps to reduce alarm fatigue
Although researchers have made progress in the last 10 years to reduce alarm fatigue, safety organizations should continue to stress alarm fatigue as a top patient safety concern and seek solutions, a commentary maintains. Published in the fall 2023 issue of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Advanced Critical Care, the commentary says the nursing field still needs a validated fatigue measurement tool. Research should continue to “integrate evidence-based alarm tactics, alarm parameter customization and interdisciplinary approaches to patient care.” In addition, researchers should incorporate smarter and more dynamic alarms to provide more information to aid clinicians and improve patient safety.
