Article calls for nurses to become versed in AI
An article published in the October issue of the American Journal of Nursing encourages nurses to be involved in developing and implementing artificial intelligence tools. Because few front-line nurses are involved in implementing AI, the technology seldom has improved nursing workflow integration. Furthermore, institutions should develop a governance process to determine whether AI tools are secure, sustainable and effective, protect privacy and are an institutional fit. The article also calls for nursing education to better prepare students to understand the power, limitations, and risks of AI algorithms. One potential option is for nursing schools to offer more interdisciplinary courses in AI.
