Advocate Aurora Leaders Share Insights During AONL 2020
At the AONL 2020 Virtual Conference in September, Advocate Aurora Health Board Chair Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, and the Milwaukee-based health system’s Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, shared their thoughts on how to meet the challenges of being a nurse leader. They encouraged four practices: extend professional generosity, use setbacks as steppingstones, serve on boards and know how to handle a crisis. Of the latter, both noted the need to “think differently” with Disch suggesting that nurse leaders bring together a team to brainstorm and get enough input to decide the best strategy.
