AONL partners to elevate nurse leaders’ voices in media
CNOs should advocate for nurse experts in their organizations to be prepared to speak to the media and pitched to journalists on health issues, says AONL outgoing CNO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, and co-authors in the January issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration. CNOs should reach out to their public relations staff, create a list of nurses who are “media-ready” and identify their areas of expertise, and make the outcomes of media opportunities available throughout the organization. The article resulted from a partnership between AONL and the George Washington University School of Nursing’s Center for Health Policy and Media Engagement to work with 14 CNOs to explore barriers and opportunities for nurses to serve as sources for health stories. The groups will offer additional workshops.
