AI will redefine nursing informatics role, Penn Medicine VP says
Nurses should be directly involved in leveraging artificial intelligence to drive positive patient outcomes and streamline clinical workflows, according to Anna Schoenbaum, DNP, RN. Schoenbaum, the vice president of applications and digital health at Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine, maintains AI will have a “transformative impact across various informatics nursing roles and profound implications for patient care delivery.” She says nurses, as front-line advocates, are perfectly positioned to champion the seamless integration of AI into clinical practice. They should work closely with AI developers to ensure the products are easy to use and fit into existing infrastructure and workflows. Nursing informatics professionals will use AI-powered data analytics tools to identify trends and patterns to enable evidence-based decision-making and personalized care delivery, she says.
