AHRQ releases 2022 hospital patient safety survey
When providers and staff were asked to rate their unit/work area on patient safety, 67% considered their unit/work area “excellent” or “very good”, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s 2022 Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture. A corresponding infographic shows 82% of respondents “strongly agreed” or “agreed” staff work together as an effective team, help each other during busy times and are respectful. Similarly, 80% of respondents said supervisor, manager or clinical leaders support suggestions for improving patient safety and addressing patient safety concerns. A potential improvement area for most hospitals is staffing and work pace, with 51% of respondents indicating there are enough staff to handle the workload and staff appropriate hours. A total of 206,410 providers and staff at 400 hospitals participated in the annual survey. (AHRQ Patient Safety Network article, 11/9/22)
