Listening key to effective nurse leadership
“We have two ears and one mouth so we can listen twice as much as we speak.” This quote from Greek philosopher Epictetus is the starting point for a recent essay in Nurse.com urging nurse leaders to work on their listening skills. The author includes a list of questions readers can use to evaluate their personal talking-to-listening ratios and the degree to which they keep staff informed about organizational decisions and the rationales that underlie them.
