Team-Based Care (Part I): Nursing’s Default Care Model
In the presences of multiple care delivery models, the COVID-19 pandemic defaulted to team-based care delivery. This session examines the rapid transition back to team nursing or newly modified versions of that model, the factors that led to efficient and effective operations, and how work was re-organized to accommodate the surge of patients.

Mary Beck, DNP, RN, NE-BC, FAONL, is the Chief Nursing Officer of MU Health Care and Joint Courtesy Faculty of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing. Mary joined MU Health Care in the fall of 2017 after serving as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Sinclair School of Nursing for two years. As chief nursing officer, Mary Beck, DNP, RN, leads nursing practice across MU Health Care, maintaining consistent and high-quality standards of patient care. She is responsible for developing and implementing nursing policies and initiatives, and partnering with MU Health Care’s Human Resources Department to optimize recruitment and retention of nurses. On March 9, 2020, Mary was designated the co-incident commander for MU Health Care’s response to COVID-19 and continues in that role.
Prior to joining the Sinclair School of Nursing, Mary was the Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive of Boone Hospital Center for 16 years. While in this role she led the organization to achieve Magnet Designation for Nursing Service Excellence three consecutive times.
Mary holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in leadership and systems from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois, a Master of Science in Nursing from the MU School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Northwest Missouri State University and a Diploma in Nursing from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mary has been an advocate for advancing the profession of nursing through her commitment to life-long learning by serving as a mentor for numerous graduate students from across that country and support of colleagues to pursue advanced degrees in nursing. She has been active in professional organizations having served as president, secretary and district representative twice for the Missouri Organization of Nurse Leaders during her 23 years as a member. In addition she has been very active with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership and was designated a Fellow in AONL in January 2021.
Krista M. Stadler, Senior Director, Telehealth Services at St. Luke's Health System, Boise, Id.
She currently serves as Senior Director of Telehealth Services at St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho. In this role she collaborates with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop Telehealth solutions that solve some of healthcare’s most pressing challenges. She has direct oversight of new and existing Telehealth programs including Remote Patient Management, Transfer Center/Bed Placement Operations and St. Luke’s Virtual Care Center which opened in August of 2018.
