AONL Lifetime awardee Gail Latimer: Prepare to take risks, develop resilience
In an interview in the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA), Gail Latimer, MSN, RN, evoked three big ideas—risk, resilience and creating balance—to recap the trajectory of her career. She described how passion and education prepared her to take risks; how resilience allowed her to bounce back from failures and stay focused in the wake of successes; and how she struggled to find a healthy balance between work and self-care. Two conversations—a heart-to-heart with her father and a gentle confrontation with her CNO—were pivotal in shaping her distinguished career. Latimer, who served as a member of the AONL board of directors and as chair of the AONL Foundation, received the organization's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award this year.
