AONL keynoter Hill highlights challenges facing nurse managers
Speaking at AONL’s annual meeting in April, Karen Hill, DNP, RN, editor-in–chief of the Journal of Nursing Administration, urged attendees to share their solutions with one another. Her talk highlighted four challenges facing nurse leaders across the country: giving nurse managers adequate opportunities to develop management skills, supporting nurse managers who face ballooning responsibilities, meeting the generation-specific needs of millennial nurses and reducing staff turnover. As chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Baptist Health Lexington in Kentucky, Hill has implemented many innovative ideas gleaned from the pages of the journal she edits. “I learn a lot from people who take time to publish because when you do something great and you let other people know about it in writing, it lives forever,” she said.
