AONL CEO describes organization’s evolution
In her June editorial for the Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA), AONL CEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, describes how AONL has evolved to meet the needs of its members. Since 1967, when the organization was first formed as a society for hospital nurse administrators, AONL has progressively expanded its membership to include nurse managers and other future nurse leaders. This year’s adoption of a new name—the American Organization for Nursing Leadership—is designed to reflect the breadth of AONL’s current membership and its current mission: to shape health care through innovative and expert nursing leadership. In her essay, Begley also considers the promise contained in the organization’s new name and how AONL’s current outlook will shape its future endeavors. (JONA editorial, June 2019)
