2019 Innovation Challenge winners tackle maternal/child health

New York–Presbyterian won first prize for its submission in the 2019 American Hospital Association (AHA) Innovation Challenge: “Using Digital Tools to Impact Early Childhood Development and Maternal Health.” Second place winner Henry Ford Health System of Detroit focused its submission on the care of reproductive-aged women, and third place winner Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles addressed the same population with an app to help at-risk new mothers during the postnatal period. The competition challenged hospitals and health systems to develop “sustainable and scalable solutions using technology to combat the social determinants of health and improve the health of our communities.” The winning teams received between $15,000 and $100,000 as well as in-kind support to implement their ideas. First American Healthcare Finance sponsored the challenge. (AHA news release, 8/14/19)
