Research shows how hospitals can retain nurses
Health care organizations must address the relationship dynamics between nurses and leadership, peers, patients and themselves for nurses to thrive and stay in the profession, a study found. The R3: the Renewal, Resilience and Retention of Maryland Nurses Initiative at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing engaged nursing students, nurses and educators from 20 health systems and nursing schools across Maryland to determine narratives in the profession. They found 63 percent of comments zeroed in on the relationship dynamics between nurses and key stakeholders like patients and hospital administrators, underscoring the critical role of relationships in addressing the nursing workforce crisis. Participants showed significant pride and broad trust in nurses’ abilities to drive change. The study also illuminated generational differences among participants. (Newswise news release, 5/2/24)
